Hi all.
Well i sometimes get asked about settings and other stuff and decided to make a tutorial for the commands and configurations in cs.
I'm to lazy to make a full tutorial but its better than nothing Smile.

1. Netsetting
2. Useful Settings
3. Commands
4. Moddings/Editing
4.1 Configuration Files
4.2 Commandmenu
4.3 Logo
4.4 Startupsound
4.5 Design and Background
________________________________________________________

Most of the configurations are done with the config.cfg.
There are also a lot of more files where you can change stuff but that will be explained in 4.

1. Netsettings

Well lets start with netsettings which are the most important settings for the gamer.
The following examples are for dsl/cable/lan.

cl_updaterate 101
-the maximum amount of packets that can be recived.

cl_cmdrate 101
-the maximum amount of packets that are send to the server.

rate/cl_rate 25000
-the maximum size in bytes

cl_cmdbackup 4
-send a duplicate of the packet to prevent packet loss.

cl_dlmax 0
-maximum of bandwidth u have. 0=infinit

cl_resend 4
-the time in ms until reconnecting to the server when failing to connect
nowadays the chances of bit errors is that low that you don't really need it at all but 4 should be fine Razz

cl_allowdownload 1
-download of files -> sprites, sounds and so on

cl_allowupload 1
-uploading e.g. your logo to the server.

cl_timeout 30
-the time until the connection to the server is cut off.

2. Useful Settings

cl_dynamiccrosshair 0
-you crosshair doesn't get bigger when running or jumping

hud_fastswitch 1
-the weapon can be changed without accepting it with the mouse

developer 1
-enables the developer modus

dev_con 1
-shows you the console msg on the left top

fps_max 100
-using higher fps causes collision problems while surfing. also when playing with too high fps the gameplay is in a slow motion modus and is a large disadvantage for the player.

hud_centerid 1
-displays the id of the player in the middle when aiming at the enemy or ally.

net_graph 3
-shows fps,ping and connection informations like choke and loss.

net_graphpos 1-3
-changes the location of the netgraph.

cl_weather 0
-disables weather effects.

By the way you have to deactivate vertical sync to get 100 fps.
This option is in the options of your gpu driver.

3. Commands

the following command are just entered into the console while playing.

status
-displays the name and steam_id of all players on the server.

snapshot
-takes a screenshot

record "demoname"
-records a demon with the entered name.

stop
-stops and saves the demo that is currently recorded.

exec "nameofthefile.cfg"
-used to execute files that are located in your cstrike folder. (jumpscript or whatever)

exit
-shuts down your game

reconnect
-reconnect to the server

kill
-suicide

bind
-you can bind a key to a command.
-e.g. "bind f10 exit"

unbind
-the opposit of "bind". with this command you can unbind commands that you binded to a certain key.
-e.g. "unbind f10"

4. Moddings/Editing

Following features in cs can be edited easily.
-configuration files (configs, scripts and so on)
-commandmenu (the menu when pressing h)
-logo (changing your spraylogo)
-design of cs (ressources folder - different styles and background)
-startupsound
-name of the options and the content in the menus

4.1 Configuration Files

This consists of:
autoexec.cfg - declarate the configs that should be loaded like this (exec test.cfg)
config.cfg - base configuration file that is edited each time you change your options unless you lock the file.
userconfig.cfg - player specific config

You can make as much configs as you please with subfolders.
Later on you can add them in the autoexec.cfg like this:
exec test.cfg
exec bhop.cfg
exec testfolder/test.cfg
and so on...

4.2 Commandmenu

This is the normal menu which can be tweaked a bit.
The file is in your cstrike folder. (commandmenu.txt)

Here is a small example on how a commandmenu is made.

"1" "option"
{
"1" "suboption"
{
"1" "description" "command"
"2" "rtd" "say rtd"
"3" "aim?" "cl_dyamiccrosshair 0"
}
"2" "suboption2"
{
"1" "description" "command"
"2" "rtd" "say rtd"
"3" "aim?" "cl_dyamiccrosshair 0"
}
}
"2" "option2"
{
"1" "suboption"
{
...

4.3 Logo

Search in google for the Half Life Logo Creator.

With this tool your won't need any explanations.
After creating the .wad file (pldecal.wad) copy it into your cstrike folder.
That's it.

4.4 Startupsound

No one needs it but it's fun to have it.
Take a mp3 file of your choice and rename it to "gamestartup.mp3"
Than copy it into your cstrike folder.

4.5 Design and Background

Tools:
HL Splash Creator - used to create the background.
and this tool for ingame styles: http://www.fpsbanana.com/tools/2219
