Re: burning problem
All discs show up with 0, on free space or used space?
When you say service pack 3, I'm going to assume you're running Windows XP. If I'm wrong correct me.
If so, could be the following things (in order of most common):
1 - Disc already recorded
2 - Broken DVD Burner
3 - Software (the application could be buggy or plain crappy, have you ever used it before?)
Others problems could be occuring but those are rarer than these, try troubleshooting these first.
Resolution to your problem:
1 - Well, check if the DVD is not already writen on (just plain putting it on the reader and checking if it's empty doesn't mean it's usable. If you attempt to burn a DVD and then stop midway, it won't place any content into the DVD but the DVD will not be usable again)
Check the back side of the DVD for a different color, if such exists then it has data on it and the DVD can not be re-written.
2 - Ask a buddy to loan you an internal or external DVD burner to try it.
3 - Use MagicISO, it's freeware and can open / burn ISO images. I'm not going to post any links here to it, you can very easily find it with a google search.
