changes on the mapcycle Empty I still dont understand

Post by Kermit The Fr@g Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:19 am

I still dont understand what happened to all the maps we tested earlier (few moths ago), nor do i see the current mapcycle as a real reflection of all the testing/voting we did over the last weekend. IMHO cs2 is being badly visited due to a poor mapcycle, ppl constantly request mapchanges, or simply dont log on anymore . I think we should have a real debate on this and bring on maps that will really pull people in, like aim_colt_ak, iceworld etc. WE also tested a lot of strategic maps of which none made it to the cycle. I dont know if that is still in the making or not. To be honest, I think we can better have 50 good maps then hundreds that aren't played. And for Gods sake take of fun_allinone as a default because it makes people leave. I don;t really understand how things work, we spent a lot of time and effort to make a good selection, at the end of the day we are left with a mapcycle of which at least 75% is not being played or appreciated, nor does it do justice to all the work that we (and most of all Agi) have put in. CS2 used to be packed 24/7, look at it now... I think we need some honest disucssion on this if we want to really keep cs2 going. For me as an admin it is also getting more of a drag to keep the vibe going with so very limited good choices. It really frustrates me because it used to be a wicked server and we can easily bring it up to speed again as there a many good maps available to cater for that. I kinda got the feeling that we spent hours and hours for nothing. WE had ppl playing till 6 in the morning every day in the past, loving the hardcore. At some point we tested a massive amount of maps that wre actually submitted and uploaded. I asked much more than once when they would be activated, alas to no avail. Then the servers were moved and we got an interim choice, which is understandable. Then later that changed due to the hard and very commendable work of Agito (hats off for that m8), but the end result hardly reflects the input we gave. I don't understand how that works within the team and it is frustrating because i see cs2 getting less and less visited (to be sure also other server/mods play a part in that, but tahts not the main reason i think) It could have something to do with the ongiong testing, if that is the case then i would ask the team to put some effort in, because seriously CS2 is flailing and I am gettingto the point where i wonder if I still want/need to administer it. We play only a few maps with about 10 regs at most. This used to be really different in the past...Any thoughts on this? It's a deathmatch and fy server, let us cater for that then... Smile

I totally agree with my man kermie there, tbh most of the fun maps we have on the map cycle just ain't fun anymore, its the same old crap maps getting voted all the time. Which is a bit strange because after all the adding/removing of maps we did a little while back, i've noticed when it comes to a votemap its normally the OLD overplayed maps that keep coming up for vote.

Maybe having a fun map server is old hat, and the players out there just ain't interested anymore, if you want my advice i'd start from scratch and only put standard and fy maps on for now and see how it goes from there.

As i said to Agito on steam chat,

it may be better if we disable map voting and just let the sever randomly pick a map, seeing that all the people always go for the same old shit maps and never try out some they dont know, if we do have random map picking atleast all the maps would get played.

I also agree that we need more normal based maps, see some suggestions from Riz and 1 from me at new submissions.
Maps based on de_dust etc but remaked are always nice.

Random spawns would also be a big advantage seeing that you then dont get the camper effect but the hit and run effect that many people like.

Agree. The server is slowly going down. And it obviously have to do with the maps. When we play smaller maps people tend to log on, but when we play bigger maps people drop.

I would, as kermit said, rather go for a few really popular and good maps, than to brag about having thousands of maps but only a few good. I think it's worth a try to change the mapcycle again, and put on some more actionfilled maps. I both hope and believe that would help make cs2 as popular as it once used to be!

Oh, and talking about nothing, the gunsmenu should also only be available for like every 90th second, not 15th. Right now you can abuse it like hell, getting nades all the time. I am the only one lame enough to have noticed though...
