Hello everyone,

sorry so far for the inconvenience that we didn't make a proper rule guide for the public players who spend their time on CS1 Jail Mod.
I've finally overworked parts of it to make it fit for the public section.

Sidenote: I preferred explaining stuff instead of just saying "this is allowed" "this is forbidden" and so on because this way, it's way easier to understand things.

Chapter 1
Intro - JailMod

As everyone know, Jail Mod is originally designed to be a coop-game unlike those survivor games like Zombie Mod.
The gameplay is based on the leadership of the officers and the sneakiness of the prisoners.
The assassination of the officers is the main objective of the prisoners to get back their freedom.
On the other side the officers are just having their usual working day and try to prevent the prisoners from escaping.
Of course, giving orders is also part of their job.
To keep the whole game realistic, officers aren't allowed to enter certain areas like the vent (another point is to prevent camping and being unfair).
So officers are not allowed to enter vents, the cage to provoke the prisoners... and so on. More details can be read in Chapter 2.
Or have you ever seen an officer in your real life who keeps camping in vents or toilets the whole day? I guess not.
Beside just giving orders to go to certain locations, it's also the job of the officer to keep the prisoners in a good mood. For example with games.
You can look up a few game suggestions in Chapter 6.

______________________________________________________

Chapter 2
General Rules + Gameplay

2.1 General Rules

Roundtime 0:00 does NOT mean that players can freekill.
This rule goes for any roundtype.
Exception: when prisoners camp beyond 0:00 in vents.
Members are allowed to slay those player or officers may use nades to kill those.
In extreme cases when the prisoners don't come out on their own, the officers may enter the vent and kill those when no member or admin is there to prevent the massiv camping past roundtime 0:00.
Same applies for CT who keep camping past 0:00 in the weapon room.

People should warn in general and shall not cast absolute orders in the beginning of the round. (specially at the beginning of the round they should not try to go around it by starting the round as a game.)
We say: give "some" warnings to prisoners so they have a chance to stay alive. Depending on the situation one warning can also be enaugh. It doesnt need to be 3 warning every time...

Officers are not allowed to enter vents, cage or swimming pools.
Now there was a discussion about: "what is a vent?"
Vents: tunnels that are longer than 1-2 meter.
So small holes in the walls are no vents.

Once it is Freeday, it is forbidden to change it back to a Cageday, Poolday...
Same goes for the restrictions on Freedays. When it is Freeday, prisoners can do whatever they want.
Exception: entering the weapon room / ct area.
Explain that part and warn the prisoners to not go in there.

Teamkilling is in general forbidden.

The officers are not allowed to give weapons to prisoners.

Special treatment for friends and so on is forbidden.

When a terror picks up a weapon by mistake but drops it directly, the officer is not allowed to kill the prisoner.

The abuse of the ctmenu:
-giving nonsense orders like "go to the cage" while there is not cage at all.
-spamming with it.
-giving other orders than the officers with a microphone.

The creation new rules is forbidden unless you get the approval of the admins.

2.2 Gameplay

Usually it's better to have some officers with a microphone. Officers without this useful tool can't give proper orders and tend to make freedays.
But whats so bad about freedays? Well, the problem about having too many Freedays is: Freedays are out of order and take forever to end.
It is in generally better to have some good officers who are skilled at giving orders.
But what else does a good officer need? Of course being able to make quick and good judgement either someone should be killed or not.
In general we say: warn at least 3 times. But when always sticking to that rule, the officers would fail every round so they need to scare the prisoners with warning shots.
Another case is when a officer is completely surrounded. Or course he will need to use warnshots, but those should be used wisely.
Of course orders that are done should not be obviously made to get kills. For example say "get in within 5 seconds" and killing people after is forbidden.

Also let me add: "Dead people don't talk"
Dead people aren't allowed to talk offtopic with the microphone or give informations about the location of certain players to the others when they are dead.

2.3 CT Menu

The CT Menu was originally made for situations like at the morning times when no one has a microphone.
It says "get in within 15 seconds" but the officers should remain tolerant and warn again with warningshots to get the prisoners into the cage.
When there is a officer useing the microphone, it is not necessary to use the ctmenu.
-> read chapter 2.1

2.4 Last Request

The last survivor is granted a "Last Request".
For most of the players it's more fun to have some special games at the very end.
It also motivates players to stay alive so they can be the lucky winner who can get the last request.
Games that are allowed:
- games that are available in the /lr plugins

Tell me a few example that you would like to be added if you see it as necessary.
We will see if it is reasonable and add it than to the list so that you don't need to ask us each time.

2.5 General rules for playing Minigames

Games are ment to be "games" and not a total carnage on the server.
Therefore we have some general conditions for creating and playing games on Jail Mod.

- the game has to have a clear content and goal that can be archieved. (successfully completing a order, being the first at something or whatever)
- other prisoners may not select other prisoners to die.
- meaningless games with massive killing and deathmatch on the server is not allowed. If you want to have total mayhem and sparte, visit the deathmatch server instead.
- the actual content of the game has to be clear to everyone.

______________________________________________________

Chapter 3
Rules and Punishment

This is a small overview of the things that are forbidden on the nD Jail server.
It's originally designed for the members so you also see the punishment for each type of breaking rules.

Freekilling
It is usually quiet difficult to judge over players either they did it or not. (defending themselves when being pushed back to a corner is pretty normal or killing those who ignore any orders at all.)
In general, freekilling is described as killing prisoners without a proper reason.
Accidental freekilling should be warned first.
It should be forgiven if the player apologizes.
Exception -> if he repeats doing that.
But what is accidental freekilling?
- warn shoting someone when he had low hp
- missing the target (e.g. on simon says or when someone picks up a weapon and killing another prisoner along with him)
- being surprised (e.g. when suddenly a prisoners pops out of nothing and jumps to the officer)
- killing cause of feeling in danger
Punishment:
In minor cases, just warn em to play more careful.
When someone is just careless and doesn't care if he/she freekills or if he/she doesn't understand the game, kick that player.
In extreme or repeated cases you may use the temp ban and write a bit on the "Strike List".
Mass freekilling is a exception. If you see that: post some proofs + the steam id on the ban section.

Teamkilling
In minor cases a kick should do.
In extreme cases tempban the player and make a entry on the Strike List.

Attacking without any reason
Some example would be those players who throw nades into a bunch or prisoners without any reason.
Players who do that usually know it is forbidden and still do it. (usually play dumb and do as if they didn't know)
Warn in general in the chat so they can't whine they didn't know.
Kick the player directly. If they join back tempban the player and make a entry in the strikelist.

The usage of the Microphone
This is only allowed as a CT and only for giving order.
Players who use it to spam with should be warned and kicked when they can't obey to the rule.
If they join back and start to flame with the mic: temp ban and make a entry on the strike list.

Entering forbidden areas
Officers are not allowed to enter these areas: Vents, pool and cage.
Many people don't read the rules fully so explain first that they are not allowed to go into the vent and slay those who do it if they don't go out of the forbidden areas.
If they do it again, kick those players who do it.
In repeated cases make a entry in the strike list.

Bugusing
The best example is the "weapon bug".
Explain in general that this is forbidden to abuse and slay those with weapons.
If certain players think they can play dumb and do it over and over again just kick the player.
But do not ban on the first time. Slay the player and tell him it is forbidden.
Sometimes they do it on mistake. (happened to some of us as well)

Abuse of plugins like the ct menu.
read Chapter 2.1 for more informations.
It isn't such big deal usually so just warn the player. If he doesn't listen, slay him once.
Kick him if he doesn't take the warning serious.

Ghosttalking/giving informations when the player is already dead.
In this case you just need to warn the player and he will usually stop.
If not: kick him.

______________________________________________________

Chapter 4
Player behavior

In general, we want all players to stay at least more or less polite and friendly to each other.
Of course that not always possible specially on games like counter strike.
One of the things that we really hate is: when flame wars from the server a brough to the forums.
We are not you babysitters and are not here to get ride of the people that you personaly hate.
Learn to get along with each other. It's rarely the case that only one person is fully fault at it.

Beside that, we expect players on the nD Servers to follow order of the members or admins.
In cases when players don't know the rules or doubt it is true, providing the link to this thread might be the fastest solution.

At the very end let me a just say this, always try to be fair to everyone.
Try to use your brain and your common sense because:

nD should be a place where everyone can enjoy playing on.

Chapter 6
Gameplay suggestions

Referring to 2.2 the players have more fun playing the minigames than just staying the whole time in the cage or having always "Freedays".
However, the general contiditions in 2.5 need to be sticked to.
So here are a few suggestions what you can play.

Simon says
"Simon says" is a simple game. The officers give orders like "jump" "crouch" or "get on the table. Anyone who doesnt obey to the order will get killed.
Rules:
-One officer at a time can give orders.
-Always make sure that your microphone is working.

Last Reaction (Evil Simon says)
This game is similar to "Simon says". The officers give orders like "jump" "crouch" or "get on the table. The last one who does it gets killed.
Rules:
-One officer at a time can give orders.
-Only the commander can kill the looser, except in *really* obvious cases.

Build a Tower
In this game the officers tell the prisoners how high the tower should be and give em a timelimit. [for example "make towers with 5 people each. the rest will get killed"]
Rules:
Officers have to give a short explanation what they expect the prisoners to do.
The Officers have to give a reasonable time so they have a chance to accomplish the given task.

Race
Easy and simple, Kill the loser (merciful mode) Kill everyone except winner (merciless mode).
Rules:
First guide the prisoners to the course and tell them which mode will be played.
If you choose the merciless mode: The winner can wish for whatever he wants.

Quiz Master
A game in which the officers ask questions. The prisoners can either select A or B. [e.g. duck = A, Jump = B]
Rules:
Explain how the prisoners can choose between A and B each round you play it.
Do NOT ask questions that no one can answer. [not movie or game related and not some insider stuff.]

Games based on map
The game depends on the map. e.g. when there is a soccer field, you can do a 1on1 tournament until one prisoner is alive.
Rules:
Explain carefully the game content to the prisoners.

The Construction Game
Probably the most difficult game. It's similar to "build a tower" but in this game they have to make something more complex like a pyramid and so on.
Rules:
Explain carefully what you want the prisoners to build.
Do not request ridiculous or impossible constructs.
When giving a timelimit give a reasonable time.

Hide and Seek
Like the name already says, in this game the prisoners try to hide somewhere and have to survive until the roundtime is 0:00.
The officers have to hunt the prisoners before the round ends.
The last survivor is granted a last request. (for example what round should be next.)
Rules:
This game should only be played on very large and complex maps and only once per map.
Minimum time for the prisoners to hide: 1 minute.
We will allow to use the vents for only this game. But it would be better to avoid using it by restricting it.
In case if you do that, don't forget to explain that part as well.
When the CT think they need to camp forever in HnS, warn em to hurry up and if they don't move at all. slay them.

Spray contest
This minigame is as simple as the name say. The one with the lowest spray looses.
Rules:
Check properly who has sprayed the spray and don't kill the wrong ones.
This game shouldn't be played at the beginning and only when there are only a very few players left.

Playing nonsense games like "knife the one you want to die" are not allowed...

More Games will be added in future.
For new games give me a poke.

Ending words/Credits

Always keep in mind:
The rules written here are not written on the server. So explain those to players if they do something wrong.
Another option is to give the link of this thread to players on the server.

We hope that most unclear things are solved now.
We wish you a lot of fun and a nice stay within this community.
And keep in mind: stick to the rules and make use of your brain.

Thanks to all those from the "nD* Team" who spend time giving me ideas and suggestions for the creation of this rule guide.

I mean if one prisoner wins a mini game, like spelling bee, he can't choose another one to die?

A prisoner may NEVER choose another one to die, the CT could say: We're going to do a spellingbee, you can pick a day or only the winner survives.

Ok, and if you tell the terorist to pick 2 numbers, 2 Ts die ?

He doesnt know who he picks ?

and another question:
Can you make restricted freedaysl like "crouching freeday"
on the rules tab it states you cant give any ORDERS/COMMANDS/RESTRICTIONs, but crouching would be one ?

About your first question I don't know sure, but I think it would be oke. But you have to make clear what you're going to do, and how the "counting" works, but don't say who is wich number.

About your second question, it is allowed to give a crouching day, but I think you can't say crouching freeday, otherwise it's a command on a freeday.. So a crouching day is fine. And you're not allowed to make restrictions, like it said.

Well for an example, darkness does spelling bee.
he says the first one picks 2 numbers, from X-Y
The picked Ts die, but he doesnt say how they are determined nor which one is who.
(So he could always kill the one he wants to ?)

And to the second day so they can fix it easily by saying its a crouching day ? lol :S

Well ok I hope I don't have more questions ;D

About that game, I think you should make clear how the counting goes, and do it carefully so he doesn't know who is wich number like I said, because DarkNess still could make a different way to count them down, so the one he wants to die will die by his counting way...

And yeah crouching days are just allowed... It's like global simon says, you just say simon says crouch Razz

Jail Mod Guide - Public Version Empty Re: Jail Mod Guide - Public Version

Post by Mati Sun Nov 08, 2009 2:58 pm

Concerning the question about spelling bee: Well, this section of the new rule affects every type of trivias where the winner can pick a slower one to die as a reward - also math or general questions. The reason for that part of the rule seems to be the theoretical issue, that the winner could pick someone he don't like on purpose.

I already wrote pretty much on the team forums on that, and suggested several versions that can be played. I will quote myself.

Mati wrote:
There are much more options, altough there are more complicated:

1) Line from left to right, Ts get numbers from 1-x starting from the left side. Winner can type a random number, if he picks himself, he can pick another number.

2) Contest-Style: Every T get to one side of the cage. The first one who got the question can go to the other side. When the half people reached the other side, the rest get's killed (amount can be variable). Take care when saying something like "ok, one more spelling bee", because the "looser side" will run to the other side then and you don't know whom to kill.

3) Tournament-Style: 2 Groups, one from each group come out of the cage and do a question/spelling bee/math, the first one wins, the other dies. In the end there will be a winner group. The whole thing can be repeated with the winner group.

4) 1on1: self-explainable

5) Group Style: 2 groups make a line, shoulder to shoulder, and each line gets numbered from 1-x. When number 3 wins now, number 3 of the opposite group dies. When there are only less people in a group and someone with a higher number from the other group wins, the next lower number dies, for example: Team A with player number 1,2,3,4,5 and Team B with 1,2,3 - player 4 from Team A wins -> player 3 from the other team dies.

6) Last Reaction style: Can be only played if there are less people alive (3-4).

7) First one wins, Rest dies: Shouldn't be played with more than 3-4 terrorists, generally a pretty bad option.

8) The first x people survives: Self-explainable, someone looks in console and say the name of the first x people who won, rest gets killed. This mode shouldn't be played with too much ppl.

This are the options I see atm, but I guess it's not easy that the CTs get that...
