Need some help with: How to make a server?

Hello,

I have tried it some times, but it didnt work at all... I tried it in New Game, dedicated server but when I start it, nobody can join.. Is it my firewall? Or what? Even when I used some command like: sv_lan 0... I have tried to search it on google but didnt help me very well, would be great if I can just start a server for 1 hour or something to play with some friends, so my question is: Can somebody help me with this?

3 ways into making a server

1. Go to a server hosting website eg www.gameservers.com www.alpha-networks.co.uk

2. Buy something to host server like neondragon did

3.(only free option) Get a dedicated server off steam tools and get tutorials on how to set it up etc

Your firewall and your ROUTER must open the ports.
It's probably that problem with Router

I do think it's the problem with the router, tried to open the ports needed to, but I'm not sure if I did it right... Could someone help me with opening a port?

Port forwarding is the Keyword. Wich Router do you have? Netgear? D-Link? :s Tell us wich Type too.

I'm Alot into Servers, Amx, plugins and so on. Hopefully this might help you.

You mind find some funny words on some of the options i dont know whats called on english.

My way.
Start - "Drive" - Write : cmd - in the popup you write : ipconfig

This is what it should look like, you find your INTERN Ipadresse, which means if you were at lan you could use this IP for joining games.


Then you find your Standardgateway, Thats the IP for your router. Go to Internet Explorer/FireFox you name it, and put the Standardgateway in the adresseline.
Like my 192.168.1.1 Logon your Router. As you might see i already got one, its made years ago. You just make a new since you dont got any.



How to find your Router and the Right place:

This site got nearly all routers made, and pictures of how you find the right place to enter these informations. Find your Router and set the game to Counterstrike.

Opening Ports:

CS Hosting Protocol : UDP

Newgame Server : 27015 Its CS Standard.
Dedicated Server : 27016-270?? You choose but only 1 is enough. Like 27016-27016, Thats 1 slot/port.

Newgame Servers:

When you make a newgame server you have to do one command to allow other people to connect, Its not enough that you opened the 27015.

sv_lan 0 - Removes the LAN ONLY part.

Other good commands
sv_password - If you dont want random people to connect.
mp_roundtime - Round Time.
mp_timelimit - Time on maps.

Now people can join, But whats the IP?
At the Moment you got one ip adresse and thats the one in Start-Drive-cmd-ipconfig, BUT thats the intern IP which means if you were are LAN with some1 he could use that ip to join, but you have to find your IPadresse for the World.

Example :
My IPadresse is : 87.58.217.81
Simply just put the "port" afterwards, like this.

Newgame Server: 87.58.217.81:27015
Dedicated Server: 87.58.217.81:27016 (or what you choosed)

Thats The ip you have to give out to your Freinds so they can join your server.

About the "Firewall" Part, If you do a newgame server you dont have to take care of your Firewall because you have allowed CS access = same goes for Newgame server since IT IS cs.
Dedicated servers is nearly the same, Your firewall asks you if you want to give access, and then you ofc says. Yes.

In my opinion is:
Newgame Server : Fast Solution to play with freinds for some time.
Dedicated Server : For more serious Hosting.

I know its alot of reading and such, BUT when you have done it 1st time, its just Start Server - Sv_lan 0 - Find your IP to your freinds - Play.

Well, thank you very much, but I have another problem.. My router isn't on www.portforward.com so what should I do? I've been googling but didn't really find something.. If you want me to take a screen of my router menu and then say what I have to click, I could take another one and so on till we found it?

EDIT: This is what I've done:
Name Transport Protocol and Parameters Timeout (min)
Steam UDP src port: 27015-27015, dst port: 27015-27015 1

Is that correct or what?

im not really into your router, but if you try what i wrote with what you did, then you find out, If people can connect it works

Great, I only got 1 question, is this for a 24 uptime server, or only when you are online?
Becuz I were thinking of making a own server, my buddy got a HnS serv, so ill ask him for other plugs and adds,
only need to know wether or not imust pay for a 24 uptime server

(And if you wonder why I just dont ask my friend. well, Hes on vaccation for 2 weeks or so. just wanted a quick reply )

The Newgame server Requires you haveing CS open on the server 24/7. When you Disconnect, the server goes down

The Dedicated server is just a program running on your computer, which means you can have it 24/7, BUT if you begin to download and such things it might lag compared to what connection you got.

As i said.

Newgame Servers = some time with freinds
Dedicated Servers = more serious hosting

When you buy a server on the net from any host it is a dedicated server, But the computer is ONLY used for haveing servers, = Stable Server.

XaZoR I really want to thank you much, but I am still not able to open the ports.. I got so many menus on my router site that I don't know where to click and open the ports. Incase someone could help me my router is a: Juniper ns5gt <--- Think that's the full version
